Is Slipknot a bad influence on people?

Slipknot has been a heavy metal rock band since 1995. Slipknot is an American heavy metal band from Des Monies, Iowa. Slipknot contains 9 members that each wear their own unique mask. They're songs have very inappropriate music videos that children look at. These music videos may have the children to think of the band members as role models. The children will soon try to act like them and try to be like them at all times. The lyrics in some of Slipknot's videos are very inappropriate. A lot of their songs have very inappropriate violent words. 1 of their songs that is filled with violence is the song Dead Memories. The song Dead Memories has frightening lyrics like "Dead visions in your name. Dead fingers in my veins". There has has been a death that involved similar masks of Slipknot. The boy was wearing the mark of the beast as an imitation of Slipknot and had accidentally stabbed an innocent kid in school. Slipknot has made a huge impact on the world today. In my opinion, I think Slipknot is very inappropriate for children 18 and under.

  1. Ok - the article is well written, and obviously you did your research on 'music affecting teens', but you need to include direct links to where you found the information (i.e. - wikipedia).

Some issues your group needs to address:

    1) The 2nd Post - "The Violent Game" article, though interesting, does not fit in with the overall topic of your blog. Please rewrite a new post.

    2) Make sure you TITLE each blog.

    3) A Blog Description would be helpful, and I noticed you don't have one.

  3. Sometimes its not the music that influences kids. Its mostly their life and style. Sometimes if kids have some trouble in their life, they turn to music.

  4. I do not think that any music can affect teens. People think and act how they want. Lyrics in a song can't affect that.

  5. I listen to Slipknot and I won't go around stabbing anyone. Not to sound rude but children who stab people have more to them than some band.

  6. No, they're not at all, a bad image for music. Slipknot isn't not AT ALL the more offending, shocking, and atrocious thing to come out - well, back in 1999, that's besides the point with their first major album "Sipknot" and maybe, their 2001 album "Iowa". They were shown on MTV of all places with "Spit It Out," and they didn't like the imagery of "The Shining" being referenced into their music video. It was an okay music after looking back at it now, back then, it was a excellent music video. Mainly, I was 7 at the time and I was into a large amount of nu metal or alternative metal - well, on MTV's standards and radio standards.

The formula to be controversial for the mainstream: horror movie reference + rap "scream" = a violent sight? Only because of rap.

I really like that fucking double standard. It's the rap side of things that people always, and I mean always complain about - even if they're the ones that like it. They always say: "Care for the children," who gives a shit about the children, when you apply it to music. Even if it's the lyrical content, degrading women, drugs users, waste their commodities on stupid shit, etc. However, if it was a pop track: you would eat it up. Pop music does that too, but they're actually taxed less - so that's why they're generally liked more. Another factor is pop is way more overused than any fucking genre in the music spectrum. Anyone can make a pop #1 hit, not a death metal #1 album. It's usually between 75%-90% on the corporate level; however, a band such as: Slipknot, will have to pay between 5%-25% of the tax code required.

There are more offending music than Slipknot in all honesty. There are bands that kill audience members, there are bands that use lyrical content, and some, such like Slipknot, use visual arts. Slipknot in their early days, from 1994-1999, I would consider offensive - only because the mask. Now they're just pathetic in how they structure the arrangements since Paul Grey has died. However, people always seem to point the finger at music first, and even television, books, video games, as a "culture shock" in our own society.

Will Slipknot encourage you to go kill someone? No. The only factor is if maybe you're taking way too much psychedelic drugs, otherwise you shouldn't be listening to music at the period of time.

Will I let my children listen to Slipknot? Yes. I'm not going to have a symposium on why the album is atrocious, even in the lyrical content. I'm not a Conservative who freaks out when the album doesn't have family values. You need to get over that perspective, once you do: it makes the music experience more enjoyable that what it is now. Like the artist/music genres and do not be ignorant on the issue, what are you a 12-16 year old? I would therefore be a fucking hypocrite based on my earlier listening habits of liking Anal Cunt, Dying Fetus, every Satanic band known, Cattle Decapitation, and the list goes on and on. Plus, they're not AT ALL affiliated with terrible and shock value band compared to one of their influences: Mr. Bungle. (Without Mr. Bungle there will not be a Slipknot around in our world.)

You didn't just state that? Slipknot is a band that you listen when you're 12, because this band is immature for what they have to offer. It's the same old, same old band that has the same lyrical content as your post-hardcore band from today (whose on the radio), when it's all about relationships, regret, and sadness. Well, besides their earlier material - it was slightly similar to Mr. Bungle and Cynic, even mildly entertaining with how much genres that they blended into one.

  7. i dont agree with the fact that slipknot is inappropriate im 13 and slipknot is motivation for me and is a stress reliever just because people listen to different types of music besides that stupid pop shit doesnt mean their going to shoot up a school.

  8. My 10 yr old listens to slipknot (the tracks where there is little or no swearing and the material isn't too dark)... the point is that the music is energizing and for those that like metal, actually quite calming.. there have been multiple studies that have confirmed this... the point is that you should always let your child express themselves through the music they enjoy, just keep a parental eye on them, and to not be suffocating their emotional outlet, as there are a lot of kids out there that can't express themselves through any other medium effectively.
